Clinical Importance

Nutritional imbalances and inefficient metabolic cellular activity can be caused by a variety of factors, increasing the risk and severity of chronic diseases.

Many signs and symptoms indicate cellular imbalances and necessitate organic acid testing. These may include:

Chronic fatigue
Poor memory/attention
Sleep disturbance
Mood issues
Weight gain
Poor blood sugar control
Allergies
Digestive issues

Organic acids test assists in evaluating:

Krebs Cycle Abnormalities
‍Neurotransmitter Levels
‍Nutrition/Vitamins/Antioxidant Status
‍Yeast and Clostridia Overgrowth
‍Fatty Acid Metabolism
‍Mitochondrial Function
‍Detoxification and Oxidative Stress

Interpretation Guide

Vitamin deficiencies and metabolic imbalances may produce a range of health issues, including fatigue, mood changes, digestive problems, and more. Our Organic Acids Profile measures 36 organic acids markers to create a unique patient biochemistry profile that reflects how well the body is obtaining and utilizing nutrients. A customized diet and lifestyle plan can then be established to address specific nutritional needs.

Basic Information

About Organic Acids Profile

The organic acids test (OAT) is a powerful tool in assessing an individual's health and wellbeing. By analyzing urine samples, this test provides valuable insights into the body's metabolic processes and identifies any imbalances or deficiencies. Moreover, the organic acids test provides a comprehensive analysis of various metabolic pathways, offering a holistic view of an individual's overall health status. It can uncover nutritional deficiencies, oxidative stress levels, energy production efficiency, neurotransmitter function, toxins and much more.

Why OAP?

Overview

Metabolites and cellular metabolism parameters determine your organic acid test findings. Depending on your food, stress levels, sleep, hydration, medications, and current and prior supplements, the organic acid test report shows both "functional" nutritional status and metabolic demands unique to your biochemistry and nutritional sufficiency. If there is a hint that one of your routes might benefit from iron (Fe), your doctor may do a confirmatory test like ferritin, total iron, etc. If there is a metabolic pathway that may indicate a nutrient need for B12 or folate, your provider may test your MCV (red blood cell size) to confirm this need, or they may measure homocysteine (a naturally occurring substance in your body that when elevated above optimal may indicate low B12/folate).In summary, this organic acid/metabolic test gives you and your doctor a wide view of your body's 50 to 100 trillion cells' biochemical pathways.

How the test is peformed?

Because the kidneys are excretory organs, this test is done through urine analysis. That is, it filters your blood, and many of your body's breakdown products (cellular exhaust) are suspended in the urine as the body is cleansed. US BioTek Laboratories employs the most recent LC/MS/MS technology, which is noted for its specificity and increased sensitivity. Starting with the specimen collection method, carefully researched stability technology utilized during transport to the lab, and the precise preparations directions given before to collecting the laboratory sample, special care has been taken to obtain reproducible and accurate results.

Why retest?

Retesting following supplements and dietary modifications helps determine how well your biochemical pathways are fueled and how well you absorb and assimilate. Like a Polaroid photo, the news you're looking at is instant. Results include your recent diet, lifestyle, nutritional status, and health status. With your healthcare practitioner, you will fuel the pathways that are high or low to offer the "correct fuel" based on the results and how they relate to your symptoms and overall clinical picture.
